Sometimes called Swedish massage or Classic massage, the therapist uses long, smooth strokes and gentle kneading to coax tense, tight muscles into relaxing. Your massage therapist may also use deep, circular movements and passive joint movements.

In addition to relaxing you, these massage therapy techniques will also stimulate nerve endings and increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage. You can choose a 50-minute or a 75-minute massage or a 90-minute massage.

Deep Tissue Massage differs from Relaxation Massage in pressure, technique, and intention. Targeting muscles, tendons, and fascia (dense connective tissue), deep tissue massage is well-suited for athletes and may help people with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia or lower back pain.

Once your muscles are warmed up with several minutes of classic massage, your therapist will begin to work layer by layer into the deeper muscle tissue applying more pressure and using special techniques.

Before beginning your Deep Tissue Massage, your therapist will talk to you about the areas you want to target. He or she will check with you throughout the massage about the level of pressure being applied and will encourage you to speak up if the pressure is too much. This communication will ensure you have a comfortable and productive Deep Tissue Massage experience.
